Introduction

Welcome to the home page for those sharing a segment of dna on chromosome 05 and trying to figure out which ancestor is responsible for that.
We already know that the shared ancestral couple for several participants are James HENDERSON and Amelia MILLAR who married in Stirling, Scotland in 1836.
Knowledge of James' HENDERSON ancestry stops at his father Archibald, who married Margaret McEWAN in 1804. Margaret's ancestry is reasonably well known, Archibald's is a complete mystery.
Knowledge of Amelia MILLAR's ancestry consists entirely of a note in a letter from her grand daughter stating that "her mother was a Miss CHRYSTAL", and Amelia's death cert. which gives her father as James MILLAR.
The range of this "segment", from 63 to 155 is from one crossover point to another between grandparents, so several smaller segments within this range will be involved.

Names/places

Stirlingshire/Perthshire feature for this segment: Bridge of Allan, Kincardine by Doune, Dunblane, Muthill, Kilmadock being just some of the connected places.
Surnames that may be connected to either James Henderson or Amelia Millar (jury still out which side this match lies one):
For the James Stirling Kinross ancestry: Kinross, Adie/Eadie and possibly Faichney;
OR Stirling, Graham, Whyte, Pickering, Reid, McEwan, again depending on which "side" the DNA comes from - along with this web page.

For the ancestors of Paul Doig: Doig, Buchanan, Waddell, Monteith; OR Paterson

Wanted!

In order to help refine which ancestor(s) of our matches are responsible for the shared/inherited DNA it is very useful to have a range of tested descendants.
We would therefore particularly love to hear from descendants of any of the following who either have joined in the fun of autosomal dna testing, or who may be interested in doing so (see DNA Groups page for further information).
Links are to either WikiTree or FamilySearch, both collaborative one world trees where it is free to register and contribute.
With known descendants in the tested gene pool the matches become easier to assign to specific ancestral lines for further investigation of links between matches where the links are not known.

Chromosome Map

If registered for the site, you may find a chromosome map of the dna segments in the Histories link in the sidebar.
Some of the people mentioned are linked to their tree in DNAGeds tree
Do NOT believe such trees without verification as they are merely quick research into possible areas to explain dna matches.
